Interconnect Link

Service Description
Interconnect links provide voice switches connectivity between Operators and STC:

  • Interconnect links consist of a fixed transmission capacity over which traffic flows between OLOs’ and STC’s network.
  • Interconnect links provide customers with the required infrastructure to transit their calls and signaling messages to other operators’ networks, and to terminate the operators' calls on Wholesale network.
  • The capacity required is based on the amount of voice traffic that is conveyed between networks.
  • With few connections to service nodes, OLOs get connected to STC’s fixed network, mobile network and international gateway.

Distance

  • Interconnect links are assumed to span less than 10Km
  • For interconnect circuits greater than 10Km, additional charges apply (based on Transmission Link service charges)

Capacity

  • There are two types of interfaces available:
  • E1 (electrical, 2 Mbit/s): Digital signal connection with a transmission capacity of 2 Mbit/s for the transmission of 30 channels at 64 Kbit/s each
  • STM-1 (optical, 155Mbit/s): Optical signal connection with a transmission capacity of 63 x 2 Mbit/s

Customer Benefits

Lower Cost

  • STC will provide most of the national call routing on its network which saves OLO from inefficiently adding excessive transmission for kingdom wide interconnectivity.
  • The same interconnect links will provide connectivity to all off-net calls originating from OLO and destined to STC fixed and mobile lines.

Reliability and Support

  • Interconnect links have high reliability and are subject to proactive monitoring and management

Scalability

  • With two bandwidth options, Interconnect links are scalable and thus could be dimensioned more efficiently.
