Service Description
STC’s Wholesale Access services enable licensed data operators to offer data services to end-users through STC’s access network. STC currently provides two access services: Bitstream and Line Sharing
Bitstream Access Service
STC Wholesale provides high speed Bitstream links to the customer premises and makes these links available to third parties, to enable them to provide high speed DSL services to the customer. STC Wholesale provides the digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM) and splitters.
Line Sharing Access Service
STC line sharing service permits licensed operators to provide DSL services to existing STC fixed line subscribers using the same copper local loop. The operator uses the portion of the local loop that is not used for PSTN service to provide data services to end users (using DSL). The PSTN portion remains in the control of STC and is used to provide voice services. The operator’s service would be interrupted if the subscriber disconnects his voice service.
The data portion of the traffic is handed over to the operator at the splitter access. With line sharing, the licensed operator is responsible for supplying and maintaining the DSLAM equipment.
